EcoXbt Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker

Price: $130

This 9-inch-wide speaker made for the water provides a better sound than most small speakers. Designed to float speaker-up in the water, it will allow you to hear your tunes from the deep end or all around the pool. Once you connect your phone or tablet (or even a laptop) via Bluetooth, you can also place calls using the EcoXbt as a speakerphone. There's a large carabiner for clipping the 1.5-pound device to a backpack. The rechargeable battery lasts about 10 hours and comes in orange, red, or black.

Griffin Technology Survivor + Catalyst Waterproof iPhone 5 Case

Price: $70

Your first reaction to this waterproof case might be to balk at the price. But, as someone who recently lost an iPhone 5 to an unfortunate water-dunking, this protective case is worth it. An airtight compression seal, which still allows you to connect your charger and control the phone, makes the case fully waterproof up to about 10 feet deep. The Survivor is also impact resistant for falls of up to about 7 feet. Because the case is clear, you can inspect the O-ring seal for any leakage. In fact, that's the big differentiator between the Survivor and black cases like the Lifeproof Fre. Otterbox also makes clear iPhone cases but they tend to run about $30 more.

Kyocera Hydro Edge Waterproof Smartphone

Price: $55/month, no contract

This fully waterproof Android smartphone from Sprint can withstand full submersion in the pool up to about 3 feet for 30 minutes. The rugged, impact-resistant design can also withstand splashes, drops, and dust. And this isn't just a minimalist tool that sacrifices everything in the name of durability. It is also a real smartphone that can run Android apps and snap 5-megapixel photos. The phone works with BoostMobile for unlimited data and voice for $55 per month sans contract. The key advantage: No fuss with cases that are hard to open, don't charge easily, and make a phone bulky and heavy.

Sony Action Cam HDR-AS15 High-Definition Point-of-View Camcorder

Price: $280

Sony has an eye on the action-sports-filming market currently dominated by devices like the GoPro Hero 3. The company's newest offering, the HDR-AS15, could shoot in or around the pool using one of about a dozen mounts. (There's one with suction cups that work underwater, an adhesive helmet mount, and even a camera mount for the dog.) The ruggedized camera works up to 197 feet underwater and records in crisp 1080p HD video.

Sea-Doo AquaMaster

Price: $200

Forget those blow-up rafts everyone uses. This inflatable personal watercraft is designed for speeding around the pool at up to 2.5 mph. Made from a ruggedized PVC bladder wrapped in nylon, the AquaMaster runs on a battery for up to 1.5 hours. For safety, the propeller is fully caged. There's also an auto-kill switch. Best of all: While the AquaMaster might be designed for kids, it works just fine for two 200-pound adults.

iAquaLink

Price: Free

You can already connect your front-door lock, a sprinkler system, and your pet to the Internet. Why not your pool as well? The iAquaLink app, available for phones and tablets on Android or iOS, requires an iAquaLink pool cleaner such as the MX8 suction bot, and the appropriate control units. Once the system is Web-connected, you can control the temp, pumps, lights around the pool, and check on filter maintenance from the app. The app is free but equipment pricing varies.

Rave Sports Inflatable Iceberg

Price: $7000

If you're trying to throw the party of the summer, you've got to go big. This 14-foot-tall inflatable iceberg might not be the crowning achievement in pool technology but it is a blast for climbing. Made from commercially constructed high-grade PVC material, the tower can be secured to your pool from four corners using 12 anchors (three in each corner). There are 87 handles, and the iceberg supports about eight kids and adults, up to a total weight of 1800 pounds.
