Xiaomi sells 220,000 smartphones in 3 minutes

It wasn't long ago that we reported that Xiaomi sold its 100,000 HongMi smartphones in about two minutes. The Chinese manufacturer has done it again, and this time the company has managed to sell its flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi MI3 at a similarly brisk pace.

Xiaomi has sold 110,000 units of HongMi and MI-2s in a few minutes in a sale done to celebrate "Single's Day", which is basically the opposite of Valentine's Day, according to Hugo Barra.

On Singles Day, Xiaomi had 380,000 devices on sale, out of which, the company had 110,000 units of each of its three smartphones - MI3, Hongmi and MI-2S. Apart from the cellular devices, Xiaomi also had 50,000 units of set-top boxes.

According to the report, Xiaomi managed to sell all the Mi3 stock in three minutes. The Chinese manufacture was able to generate RMB 107 million (about $17 million). And, by the end of the day, the company had managed to pile up RMB300 million (about $49 million).

The impressive sales once again confirm that Xiaomi has a huge potential, so we are hoping the company switches to more conventional sales practices soon and more people get access to its products.

Pink Samsung Galaxy Note 3 goes on sale in the UK

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 was announced in three flavors - black, white and pink. The black and white Note 3 are already available globally, while the pink is yet to hit the shelves.

It seems UK is the first market to get the pink Galaxy Note 3. It will be available tomorrow exclusively via Phones 4U. You can get the phablet for free with a 2-year contract on various plans starting at £43. If you need a cheaper contract - you can get the phablet on £40/month deal, but you will have to pay £100 upfront.

If you get the pink Galaxy Note 3 on a 4G tariff, you get a free wireless speaker worth £120. What’s more, anyone upgrading to the new smartphone on a Vodafone 4G ready plan will gets Sky Sports Mobile or Spotify Premium included for no extra charge.

The Phones 4U exclusivity will last until the end of November. After that the pink Galaxy Note 3 will become across the UK. If you live in the UK and you want to get the pink Note 3 right now, just follow the source link below.

Qualcomm to introduce Adreno 400 in 2014

Qualcomm's Adreno 330 GPU that powers the Snapdragon 800 is currently one of the most successful and powerful on the market. However, Qualcomm won't settle with resting on its laurels and the popular chipmaker is already working on its successor, the Adreno 400. The new GPU series is expected to debut alongside a new Snapdragon chipset.

In the past, Qualcomm has showcased its new innovations at CES and the company might well continue to do that early next year in the 2014 edition of the Consumer Electronic Show.

The Adreno 400 is said to come out with a significant boost to its graphic performance. However, if rumors are to be trusted, the Adreno 400 will not support OpenCL.

Currently, the Adreno 330 has the ability to push 3.6 Gigapixels per second. Naturally, the next iteration of the GPU is expected to be a lot quicker than that.

However, please keep in mind that there is no official word from Qualcomm just yet, so take all this information with a pinch of salt.

Sony reveals its Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade plans

Google officially announced the 4.4 KitKat a couple of days and today, Sony has revealed its Android upgrade roadmap. In an official blog post, the Japanese manufacturer has also announced its plans with the 4.3 Jelly Bean roll out.

As promised, Sony will be bringing the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean to its Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR,Xperia SP, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 and the Xperia Tablet Z. The software roll-out will begin from next month and as usual, the upgrades will seed region by region.

The Android 4.3 Jelly Bean upgrade list just doesn't end with the top-tier smartphones. Sony has confirmed that Xperia T, Xperia TX and the Xperia V will be upgraded to 4.3 Jelly Bean.

Sony is also the first smartphone manufacturer to break the news about its Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade cycle. For now, the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra and the Xperia Tablet Z will be in the queue to get the latest 4.4 KitKat update.

Google has already announced that the 4.4 KitKat is designed to scale and automatically fit on the devices with as little as 512 MB of RAM. So, the update might eventually make it to a numerous Xperia devices, but no further model names have been confirmed at the moment.

Android in October 2013: Jelly Bean crosses the 50% mark

Google detailed the state of Android OS versions in October and it's has shown that Jelly Bean has passed the 50% adoption rate mark. The three JB releases have all gained ground at the expense of the outdated versions.

2.3 Gingerbread still powers 26.3% of all droids, having fallen more than two percentage points since last month. It's still the second most popular single version after 4.1 Jelly Bean, though.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich has lost 0.8 percent points of it share and has fallen below the 20% . Honeycomb (3.2) is still at the 0.1% threshold.

As far as Jelly Bean is concerned - all three releases have improved their shares. 4.1 rose by 0.8 points, 4.2 gained 1.9 points, while 4.3 added another 0.8 points. We expect to see some of the share of the first two Jelly Bean releases transfer to 4.3 in the next few months as more updates come in.

Android 4.4 KitKat was announced at the very last moment of the survey, so it didn't make it to the charts. It probably won't have a significant market share next month either as it will only power Nexus devices by that point.

Sony Xperia L now getting Android 4.2.2

Sony has started seeding Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean for the Xperia L smartphone. The update is available through the PC Companion and weighs about 700MB.

In addition to bringing your Android version to 4.2.2, the update packs several tweaks to the home-baked launcher. Those include a new homescreen, improved search and app sorting, updated media apps (Walkman, Album and Movies), easier Small Apps and two new camera features - Burst mode and Auto Scene Recognition.

The guys over XperiaGuide have built a rather detailed changelog. Here it is:

• New homescreen UI, you can add up to 7 window panes now.
• Add more widgets in homescreen and lockscreen.
• Bug fixes and performance enhancements.
• Superior auto mode (auto scene recognition) and Burst Mode feature added in Camera interface.
• Better photo quality.
• Updated Sony Media apps.
• Small apps accessible from homescreen.
• Improved search and app sorting now.
• New Keyboard added.
• Transparent dock at the bottom part on homescreen.
• False memory notification bug is rectified.
• Day Dream feature added in display settings.

So, if you own a Sony Xperia L, you should keep an eye on your notification area. The update is either available or just around the corner. Given, Sony's recent track record it shouldn't take more than a few weeks for the update to reach every Xperia L unit globally

Android 4.4 KitKat 

Android 4.4 KitKat has been officially announced and as usual, the latest version of the Android OS debuts alongside the a new Nexus, the Nexus 5. So, what's new? Well, the 4.4 KitKat aims to reach the next 1 billion users and it will scale automatically to fit on the devices with as little as 512 MB of RAM.

The design of the OS has been polished and it looks better than ever. Android 4.4 brings a new phone app, which now helps you search across your contacts, nearby places or even through any other Google app accounts, right from your dialler app.

Google's new Hangout app comes out of the box on Android 4.4. It puts all your SMS and MMS under one roof along with other conversations and video calls so that you don't miss messages regardless of how they are sent.

The lock screen now has a camera shortcut and there is an option to rearrange the home screens to match your requirements. All devices without hardware keys now get extra room as the navigation interface disappears as soon as an app is launched.

As one can expect, the newest Android version brings a whole lot of new features for Google's search platform. You can now activate search with keywords and the speech recognition engine is about 25 percent more accurate than before, according to Google.

You can use the hotwords to launch voice search with the Google Now, send a text, get directions or even play a song. The upcoming version of the Google Now will bring new card types that keep you updated with contextual topics of interest to you.

Android 4.4's new framework allows you to AirPrint (a feature similar to wireless printing), which is however limited to HP printers only for now. The OS now supports third-party cloud storage in the Gallery app

Google aims to make Android accessible to everyone, even people with low-end hardware. In the past, due to the memory constraints, some lower-end smartphones couldn't get a taste of the newer Android versions, but with KitKat that's about to change. Android 4.4 KitKat removes unnecessary background services and reduces the memory consumption to a large extent, which now allows the OS to run smoothly even on devices with 512MB RAM. Ironically, the Galaxy Nexus with 1GB RAM will not get KitKat.

Google has also managed to enhance the battery performance through its sensor batching, which reduces the data requests. Lastly, Android 4.4 comes with under the hood tweaks and changes to enhance the overall performance of the OS.

Android 4.4 KitKat will be powering the newly launched Google Nexus 5 out of the box, while the roll out for the other Nexus devices will begin in the coming days.

More Android 4.4 KitKat screenshots make the rounds

After showing up alongside a Nexus 5 late last week, Android 4.4 KitKat appeared yet again in a series of leaked screenshots. This time around, the upcoming Android release got caught running on an ASUS Nexus 7 (2013).

In line with previous leaks, the screenshots reveal some of the UI changes which Android 4.4 KitKat will bring. They include mildly redesigned stock apps including Quickoffice integration, new additions to the settings menu, as well as the cool-looking Android KitKat Easter egg.

According to the source of the screenshots, the Android build captured in them predate the official KitKat announcement. This explains the presence of a Key Lime Pie codename in them.
